So, we come to the end of RPG a Day 2025. Allow me to get a little sentimental. I’ve been participating in RPG a Day for 11 years, and this process has been incredibly rewarding. Look at that! Today’s prompt is Reward. It’s like I planned it. 😉
Role-playing games, gaming, have been enriching personally. A creative outlet, an activity to share with friends, a way to meet new friends, and to bond with them. I recently posted on social media that gaming is part of my well-being routine. Something I do to decompress, entertain myself, and distract from the worries of daily life. Preparing for the game is a relaxing, creative process for me.
The Scientific American YouTube channel features a video explaining why Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is beneficial for your brain. In that context, D&D being the most popular and well-known RPG, I understand why they speak about D&D, but I’d dare to say that RPGs in general are beneficial. You can see the video below.
Through my love of gaming, I befriended Michael, the creator of this blog, whom I consider one of my dearest friends. I’ve been blogging here for 15 years!
RPG a Day has been a way to share with and connect with the larger RPG community online. Discovering new perspectives and learning from a diverse group of gamers. The connections made after RPG a Day continue after August is over.
I want to publicly thank David F. Chapman and Anthony Boyd for continuing their work with RPG a Day. It used to be that I would look forward to August because of Gen Con, either trying to make it there or to catch up on all the news. These days, I enjoy the Gen Con news, but the true highlight of my month is RPG a Day.
Granted, some years have been better than others. At times, I bit more than I could chew, trying to blog and vlog. In other cases, real life has made things complicated, and I have not been able to complete all posts, but that’s okay. I’ve come to realize that RPG a Day is not about posting every day, but about participating, engaging, reading, and listening to all the wonderful things this community has to offer.
And finally, thank you, dear reader, for taking the time to read my posts. If only a bit of what I wrote about is either informative, inspiring, or funny, I’ve done my job.
Allow me to share some pictures with you from our last gaming session, which was a hybrid one. Four players were present, and two of them were connected to the session via Discord. I’ll dedicate this post to the current group of players at my table: Carlos, Fernando, José B., José G., Luis, and Oscar. As well as to all the players who have been at our table over the past 39 years. 2026 will be a special year, my 40th anniversary as a gamer and GM.
I’m looking forward to celebrating. I want to play seven new systems before summer 2026, to play the very first adventure I ran one more time, and to participate in RPG a Day 2016. See you all next year!
