#RPGaDay2024, The other topics… Days 1 to 6 Speed Round

If you’ve been reading my posts these past few days, you know I’m again participating in #RPGaDay this year. But instead of the regular prompts in the graphic below, I’ve been doing the alternative prompt challenge list by Skala Wyzwania.

Still, there are interesting topics on the regular prompts, so I’m doing a quick speed round of the general topics with short answers for each. Here we go!

Day 1: First RPG bought this year – I’ve not brought many RPGs off the shelf this year. There have been Kickstarters and even fewer of those, but not many books. The tabletop RPG accessory I got was Hit Point Press’ Deck of Many Things. The first RPG book I purchased was the print-on-demand copy of Space 1889 After for D&D 5th edition.

Day 2: Most recently played – The same I’ve been playing weekly for almost two years, Pinnacle’s Savage Worlds. Using that ruleset to play in the Fading Suns universe, we call it (and this is an incredible feat of originality) Savage fading Suns!

Day 3: Most often played RPG – Well, by sheer number of games played, Dungeons & Dragons, in all its iterations, from the Mentzer Red Box to 5th edition, including Pathfinder 1e (yet to play 2nd edition), to the d20 based Stars Without Number.

Day 4: RPG with great art – There is a game that caught my attention, and I want to run it, Tiny Supers! from Gallant Knight Games. I love the art, the style, and the simple rules. Get a copy here!

Day 5: RPG with great writing – I know not everyone may agree with this, but for me, the …Without Number books, Stars/World/Cities by Kevin Crawford, speak to me with old-school sensibilities, but modern mechanics and so many tools. I always find reading his books evocative; they fire up my imagination. Check out Sine Nomine Publishing.

Day 6: RPG that is easy to use – The Tinyd6 games by Gallant Knight Games tickle my fancy. I’ve been reading them for some years now and I really want to run a game. They seem so easy to use. What has been your experience with them?

Here we are, the first six days. I can’t promise to do the rest, but this was fun.
