#RPGaDay2017 Day 4: And the winner is…

Day 3 is in the dustbin… We’ve made it to Friday and day 4 of #RPGaDay2017! With the weekend around the corner and the possibility of some leisure time, let’s relax and jump right into the next topic.

August 4: Which RPG have you played the most since August 2016?

These past twelve months since RPG a Day 2016 have been particularly fruitful in the role-playing games department. I tend to run long campaigns, and that means often sticking with one game for well over a year. Unless I try something different at a Geeknic, some years I play just one RPG. This year has been different. First, I decided to participate in the Alternity playtest and got a group of friends together to play at our FLGS The Gaming Pit.

After that game, some of us got together and started a new project, Desde la Fosa, a vlog about RPGs in Spanish. As part of Desde la Fosa we record actual-play videos so I’ve gotten to play and run more games than I usually do. I’ve played classic Star Frontiers, Silent Legions, and Torg Eternity!

With my weekly gaming group, we also played three sessions of The End of the World Zombie Apocalypse. That means that I’ve played five RPG games since August 2016. So, which one was the fifth one? What was the RPG I’ve played the most since last year… Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition!

“You like me, you really like me!”

If you follow me on social media that will not be a surprise. I post and tweet about it often enough. But if you’re a casual reader of the blog and remember my past posts about D&D you might be a little surprised. When D&D 4th edition came out I gave it a try, did not like it and moved on to Pathfinder. I even compared the separation with a breakup. But when 5th edition came around, I gave it a try… and I liked it! That means D&D and I got back together. Who says there are no second chances!

This very week last year we played the 19th session of the Dungeons & Dragons campaign. This past Tuesday we played the 62nd session. I also ran a D&D one shot at a Geeknic and for my friend Tony Rosales when he came to Puerto Rico, so with over 45 sessions since last August D&D is the game I’ve played the most.

What RPG have you played the most since August 2016? Let us know in the comments or share your response wherever you post it. Have a wonderful day, see you tomorrow!

In the YouTube channel of Desde la Fosa you can see a video by Anibal Delgado about which game he has played the most this past year. You can see the video, in Spanish, below:

Welcome, reader; thanks for taking the time to discover who I am! My name is Roberto, although I usually go by Sunglar online. I am a longtime tabletop RPG player, primarily a GM for the better part of that time; some will say that’s because of my love of telling a good story, others because I’m a control freak, but that’s debatable. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, an island in the Caribbean with a small but active gaming community. I’ve played RPGs for almost 40 years, and for most of that time, I played D&D in all its permutations, including Pathfinder and D&D 5th edition. Other games our regular gaming group plays include Mutants & Masterminds, Castles & Crusades, Savage Worlds, Stars Without Number, Alien, and more. I have played many games through the years and plan to play many more. I am a compulsive homebrewer and rarely play a campaign I have not created myself. You can follow me on social media as Sunglar, and I’m regularly active on Facebook where you can find me posting regularly in the Puerto Rico Role Players group. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

It is funny to know that someone else refers to the disliking of 4th Ed. DnD as a break up with DnD. Haha!

During this I have had the opportunity to play/run a lot of 5th ed. and some Fantasy age. And, to tell you the truth 5th edition has it flaws and is far from perfect but very fun to come back to get a session going.

Carlos, we were the D&D Widowers! I like 5th much better, and the flaws are nothing I cannot deal with in my opinion. Not all m players love it. Some miss the added character options they had in Pathfinder. Thanks for the comment.

When 5e was coming out, I said they had an up-hill battle. They had basically given the “king of the hill” seat to Paizo, with how low the popularity of 4e was, and that Pathfinder was riding the momentum of 3e.

And, I’m actually pleased to see that they did it. I still love many things about 3e … but 5e seems to have done a GREAT job of striking a lot of happy mediums. I thoroughly enjoy playing actual D&D again.

Johnkzin great to read your comment my friend! I am in fact amazed how D&D was able to retake the top spot. I am sure PAthfinder will come up with something new. I’d go for a revised Pathfinder, or second edition if they simplify some options, deal with action economy. I could see myself trying it. I have a feeling Starfinder is a proving ground.
