Welcome to Day 19 of #RPGaDay2026. As I explained in my Day 0 post, I’ll be creating NPCs based on the day’s prompts and the week and day modifiers presented in the infographic below. Check out that post for further details.

Here is today’s NPC.
Dinis “Whispering Din” Silveira (Fantasy Name Generators used for the name: Portuguese name generator and Bandit name generator)
Whispering Din is a big fish in a small pond. As the local crime lord of an insignificant trading town, he runs rackets and extorts merchants, traders, and beggars alike, while the small local thieves’ guild pays him tribute. Although the bandits on the nearby roads owe formal allegiance to no one, more than one bandit leader is safely in his pocket. Very little illicit business happens in these parts without his knowledge.
In turn, however, Whispering Din owes allegiance and coin to bigger bosses: the Shadow Barons and Counts in the neighboring cities. The Guild of Weights and Measures holds a dark secret over him that keeps him from meddling in their affairs, and he owes heavy debts to the corrupt captains whose ships waylay vessels and sell captives at the southern oasis ports. It is a precarious balancing act, but Din has always possessed a sharp instinct for handling shifting allegiances and navigating the criminal underworld.
Yet, Whispering Din is deeply unhappy. Above all else, he desires respectability and peace—two things that have eluded him his entire life. His ambitions have always guided him, tempered only by his survival instincts, from his early years as a young cutpurse to his dangerous days raiding tombs. Physically, he is a wiry, weaselly man with a thin mustache and thinning, slicked-back hair. He always wears a scarf and speaks with deliberate purpose, though his voice never rises above a harsh whisper.
The scarf hides the ragged scars on his neck, left behind when the claw of a lich ripped open his throat. Dinis and his former companions managed to destroy the undead sorcerer, but not before the creature cursed them to a life full of woes. It is a curse of endless sorrow, ensuring their dreams will never be fulfilled and that every victory will inevitably turn to defeat. Thus, Whispering Din toils ceaselessly, chasing unachievable goals while desperately searching for a way to break the magic that binds him.
