#RPGaDay 2019, let’s do this one more time! (Days 1 to 4)

You all know the drill by now. I drop off the face of the Earth for a year, and come August when the stars are right, I awaken from my slumber and crawl back to the blog to share my stories and ideas form RPG a Day. Now it is #RPGaDay2019, and I’ve been doing this since 2015. Here is the first post from #RPGaDay2015.

Back then I posted most days, but for the last three years, I’ve been doing video entries for RPG a Day. In recent years I began to do two posts for each day, one in Spanish for the Desde la Fosa YouTube channel, part of an RPG project here in Puerto Rico with a couple of friends, and the English videos I would post in my personal YouTube channel. I’ve always collected them here in the blog, and I plan to do it again this year.

For #RPGaDay2019, the creator Autocratik changed things around, and instead of phrases or questions each day. Instead, we have one-word prompts that give participants leeway on how they interpret the concept and their response. It’s been great and reading the posts and watching videos form participants I can tell the format has been a success.

What have I written about?

Day 1 – First: I recorded a video on my very first role-playing game. If you’ve read me or followed me on social media, you probably know what game it is already. But for those who’re reading me for the first time, I won’t ruin it.

Day 2 – Unique: For the second day, I talked about a unique game in my collection. Burning Empires, an RPG based on Christopher Moller’s Iron Empires graphic novels using the Burning Wheel game system. I’m a huge fan of Moller’s work, and I got this game some years back. See the videos for my impressions.

If you’re interested in Burning Empires, the game is available in PDF via DriveThruRPG. I also mention the Bloodstained Stars book, also available in digital form.

Day 3 – Engage: I got philosophical on day three and discuss my thoughts on how to engage other players when playing. Opinions welcome.

Day 4 – Share: For this day, I shared a story about a ring of vampiric regeneration from back when I was DMing AD&D 2nd editions.

And that’s what I ‘ve got so far. Today I’ll be posting the video for day 5, and I plan to collect the videos via posts here in the blog every couple of days. You can still join #RPGaDay2019, you can see the image with the topics in this post, or you can visit Autocratik’s blog and find out more, including the lists of topics translated to other languages. I did the Spanish translation.

Look for the #RPGaDay2019 hashtag on Twitter. RPG a Day is also an active Facebook group, the RPG Brigade Facebook group is collecting video posts from across the Internet, so there are places where you can go to join the conversation.

Now I want to know from you, dear reader… did you miss me? No! That’s not it. What I want to know is; Do you enjoy the videos? Is this a format you enjoy? Or do you prefer written posts for the different topics? Please let me know.

Welcome back!

I am also doing #RPGaDay2019 but on twitter using my @PPMGamer account. If anyone wants to follow then I am of course hilarious and insightful. 🙂
I am in two minds about the one word prompts with clearer questions it was interesting to see the different answers. With the word prompts most of the answers are quite unrelated.

I think the format helps creativity, true the answers are varied, but I like hearing all these different voices.
