#RPGaDay2017 Day 6: Eight days a week (minus 1)

Are you here for #RPGaDay2017 day 6? Sorry it’s a Sunday we’re closed… Just kidding! We’re in for the long haul. 6 days down, 25 to go! Ok yesterday’s question was about book covers. Today we are going in another direction.

August 6: You can game every day for a week.

Describe what you’d do!

I don’t! Playing seven days is just a recipe for burnout. Wait! Wait… Let me explain!

Gaming every day might seem like the gamer’s dream, but I’ve discovered there is so much time I can dedicate to gaming before burning out. I love the hobby and I want to enjoy it for years to come, anything beyond regularly playing more than twice a week is too much for me. Of course, I immediately went to RPG games when broaching this topic, but I could mix in some board gaming. All this hypothesizing applies if this was a continuing occurrence. What if this happened for once week? I can see that…

Last time I played every day for a week was in high school. It was a lot of fun, but I have different stamina and different interests now. I imagine a week of gaming being a special occasion. A chance to play one special campaign with a group of friends. We’d ideally go to a resort with comfortable rooms, the beach probably, with a nice restaurant, pools and a spa. Here is how I’d imagine it would go down.

Day one we’d meet to have breakfast, discuss the week’s plans, and have some drinks by the pool. We’d get together after dinner and play a little intro to the game. Not too late, maybe until midnight. The next four of days we’d all sleep in, get up for brunch and meet to game from around 11 AM to 7 PM, then dinner and some night activities. Movies, maybe hang out at the bar, some dancing.

The sixth day we’d meet for brunch as usual but the game would be short, we’d go to the spa or some sort of outdoor activity. That night at dinner we would celebrate the time spent together and then the final day would be a day long gaming marathon. See I’m a fun GM! I offer gaming and vacation planning.

What would I play you say? Something personal, something meaningful to everybody. It would be a matter of campaign; the system would not be important. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!  What would be your answers? Let us know in the comments. See you all tomorrow for day 7.

Over at Desde la Fosa Aníbal Delgado tells us what he would with a week of gaming. As usual the team’s participation in the vlog for #RPGDay207 or #JdRDiario (Juego de Rol Diario) is in Spanish.

Welcome, reader; thanks for taking the time to discover who I am! My name is Roberto, although I usually go by Sunglar online. I am a longtime tabletop RPG player, primarily a GM for the better part of that time; some will say that’s because of my love of telling a good story, others because I’m a control freak, but that’s debatable. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, an island in the Caribbean with a small but active gaming community. I’ve played RPGs for almost 40 years, and for most of that time, I played D&D in all its permutations, including Pathfinder and D&D 5th edition. Other games our regular gaming group plays include Mutants & Masterminds, Castles & Crusades, Savage Worlds, Stars Without Number, Alien, and more. I have played many games through the years and plan to play many more. I am a compulsive homebrewer and rarely play a campaign I have not created myself. You can follow me on social media as Sunglar, and I’m regularly active on Facebook where you can find me posting regularly in the Puerto Rico Role Players group. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
